A lot can happen

Tick. Tock. Tick Tock.

Time has slipped by since I've last written on this blog. A part of me missed writing on here, imaging someone out there misses my blog entries and enjoys reading what I have to write about, what craft project I did or food I attempted to make. The clock is always ticking. Just as I'm writing these few sentences, 2 minutes has passed by.  Type, type, type...delete delete delete...delete again. I'm pretty positive my brain is telling me to shut the computer off, slouch down into the covers of the bed and fall asleep before the little one wakes.

Like I mentioned above, time has elapsed since I've blogged. You're probably referring "the little one" to our dog, Rusty, whom I blogged about shortly before I took a hiatus. But the truth is, you're wrong. I am indeed talking about our little boy. Our son. I was pregnant when I typed out my last post 2 years ago.  The traditional anniversary shot? Yeah, I was pregnant but it's okay because it was only water. We still went along with it and posted online to Facebook - people had no clue, thinking it was Absolut or some sort of clear liquor.

I found out I was pregnant near the first week of January 2014. I waited to tell Matt until our anniversary....two long weeks. But it was so worth it to see how surprised he was when I gave him his anniversary gift. I placed a baby rattle in a box. When he opened it, he seemed confused and then.....it hit him! I made him promise not to tell anyone until the following weekend. That's when we planned out how we would surprise our family members. It was great; they were all thrilled.
Months went by, pregnancy was fantastic but trying to get Medicaid was a bitch. After that was set up, it was smooth sailing. I loved being pregnant; everything about it. Well, not everything. I could have done without the leg cramping in the middle of the night or the sciatica back pain near the end. Other than that, yep.. everything! It makes me excited to become pregnant again. It's just a matter of when.

Our son, Warren, was born on September 22, 2014. It was such an easy birth. I felt lucky. Hell, I didn't even know I was in labor. I was cramping really bad the night prior and in the morning I still felt very crampy. Not thinking of it as labor pains but more so brackton hicks. I took a shower, and in that moment.. I realized I'm in labor. I felt a very strong pressure sensation that didn't feel normal and I was breathing heavier. I called Matt and told him he better come home soon. He got home, we put the bags in the car and headed to the hospital. On the way there, I told him "I bet I'm only 2.5 cm." We get there, I'm getting checked out, the Nurse is giving me some breathing advice and tips. She checks.... "You're 7.5 cm and being admitted immediately. You'll have this baby in the next 2 hours." Matt and I looked at each other speechless.
Called our family and updated them. They all show up in the waiting room. I progress fast. They break my water. and I pushed 3-4 times, and out comes Warren. My life changed.

Motherhood with a son has been interesting. challenging. fun. rewarding. the best. I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm pretty sure my sleep will never be solid until my kids are older, but that's okay.. it's only for a limited time. I love being a mom no matter how difficult at times it can be. It's sometimes hard to even imagine how I went about my daily life without Warren. It would feel very strange going back in time, I think.

In other news - Matt is almost finished with his Associates degree. We've brought Rusty to dog training classes; which, has helped out with issues he was having.
We've crossed off quite a bit from our baby bucket list (by the way, we were at 53% when I got pregnant.. so that's not too bad! Here's the latest post about that), I left my job at the nursing home once Warren was born.. it was too hard for me to leave him for so long 5x a week so now I'm a stay at home mom and work the weekends as a server just to bring in a few extra dollars. Matt got a great job being a tutor at the college.
We recently found out that my brother-in-law and his wife is expecting their first baby so Matt and I will be an Aunt and Uncle again! I'm sure there are other things I've missed but I hope to update a bit more regularly.

Cross Off Extravaganza

Here's to crossing off more of those items on the baby bucket list! We're over halfway through!

#6 - Paid off Nissan Car = GREAT Feeling. How awesome it feels to ride FREE!  I do not miss paying $327.97 a month.

#24 - I ran a HALF and FULL marathon. I'm proud of both of my times for being my first races. I swore to myself after I ran the full marathon this past year, that it would be my first and last. Apparently, I lied to myself because I signed up for the full marathon again this year. Marathons are no joke. But they were fun knowing my dad and husband ran in them with me even if we didn't run it along side each other.

#36 - Matt surprised me with a bike for my birthday.

#66 - We were blessed to see the Ravens play a home game! It was a lot of fun, even if they didn't win that particular game.

#73 - We take an annual trip to NC with my husband's side of the family. This year will be our third year. It's kind of neat seeing all the kids getting older and playing with each other, or who is pregnant this time around, etc. We go for a week and as much as it's wonderful, there's nothing better than being back home in the comfort of your own home -- am I right?

Summer Vacation to NC 2014

Summer Vacation NC 2015

Also, we went to Maryland and visited with my mom's side of the family with my parents. It was a great time! We were gone for 10 days. We were able to do a lot of site-seeing. I'm thankful my parents took us to Maryland. The memories we made will never be forgotten and will be some of the most cherished.

Life Choices

From my last post in December, I talked briefly about school. I was attending school for Nursing to become an R.N. but it was during this Spring semester 2014 that I was unsure if it was really what I wanted to pursue. The drive was no longer there for me as I saw in my fellow classmates. While they would find what we were reading about interesting, I found it tedious and a hassle to sit down and read or study. After discussing this with Matt, he was on board with my dropping out from this semester and to change my field of study back to what I should've done; Journalism and broadcasting. Once I withdrew from my nursing classes, I felt such a weight lifted off my shoulders. I have more time to do craft projects, cook dinners, spend time with family, relaxing after work. It's great! Another decision that I do not regret.

Also since December,

Matt and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary. I cannot believe we've been married for 5 years already.  We feel and know this will be one of the most significant and happiest years.

The 2nd weekend in February, I ran a 10k and ended up getting overall 3rd place for women's with my best time of 57:15 ! I was so surprised- I received a trophy, medal, and a t-shirt. Made up for the cold rainy weather I had to deal with while running, as well as having no iPod or watch since the batteries both died within 1 mile in.

The Past Six Months

Well, a lot has happened in the past six months, so much that I feel it's easier to sum up with pictures instead of words.

My job is going great! I enjoy being an activity assistant CNA and interacting with the residents. I plan on staying here until graduating with my RN degree years from now.

We adopted a dog - his name is Rusty. He was 9 months when we got him. He now is 1 year and 3 months. He is supposedly an australian shepherd mix. We think he is a lab mixed with something but don't know quite yet. He is a handful at times… we're trying to train him. He is able to do tricks such as roll over, lay down, speak, praise, sit, stay, give the paw, high five, and be quiet. Although, the quiet one is rare.  We are training him how to play dead next. He enjoys playing with the neighborhood dogs by running around and chasing each other. He is friendly with all dogs and loves the dog park.

Visited my grandfather for the first time since he passed. His stone was not there yet.

We did a lot of updating of our home inside and out.  On the outside, in the front,  we removed the front landscaping and adding in our design with new plants and flowers. In the back, we planted flowers on one side of the fence and in the back wall we added a row of bushes that will grow tall to allow privacy and reduce sound from the road beside us. Our next step is to add flowers on the other side of the fence. On one side of our house, we removed the grass and added in some flowers with mulch. We plan on removing the other side and lay down rocks. Also, along the back porch, we added a rock border.
A major change to the yard, is grass! When we moved in, there was no grass. That was the first thing we put in after the landscaping.
Front of the house before and after. The front porch is now all painted white.

The back is hard to see where we planted the flowers along the side of the fence from the angle I took.

The inside we hung up pictures, changed a few minor details. Nothing too major. Once all that was completed, we had our house warming party and it was a hit!

Matt went to school full time and I started school as well to finish up my RN degree. We both finished this semester with A's! Next semester is soon to start in about 1.5 weeks
